Putting on antique truck shows is what the Southern California Chapter of the American Truck Historical Society knows how to do! So Cal ATHS was the host of the ATHS National Convention and Truck Show in Ontario in 1989, and again in 2004 for the 25th ATHS National Convention and Truck Show at California Speedway, Fontana. For more information about ATHS visit the web site at www.aths.org or phone 816-891-9900.
While this was our 20th annual “local” show, it was new to the March Field Air Museum, Riverside, venue. There was a wide variety of vehicles on display. As can be seen on the “2005 Truck Show Link”, there was everything from ½ ton pickups to “big rigs”. Also popular with spectators was the display of fire engines, military vehicles, and farm tractors. Our truck show is a high educational event for the entire family.
The “Best of Show” was Brad Boyajian’s 1912 Commercial, a unique electric truck used to deliver newspapers and magazines in the early days of trucking.
Right off of the 215 freeway at the Van Buren exit, the March Field Air Museum (www.marchfield.org) is a perfect location for the public to see up close over 75 years of aviation history. For you trivia buffs, not widely known, March Field was the locale of Bob Hope’s first USO show! Inside the main building are informative displays and WWI aircraft. Outdoors the diverse display includes aircraft from WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam eras, up to the SR-71 “Blackbird”. There is even a display of “migs” and other foreign aircraft.
For a fun and educational outing for the entire family, be part of history at the “2nd Annual Workhorses & Warbirds” Sunday May 7th at March Field Air Museum, Riverside.
